Leisure Sector Update: A-Level Results Day Guidance on Alcohol Service Regulations and Staff Diligence
Welcome to the Harrison Drury Leisure Sector Newsletter. Your regular update on legal developments across the leisure, hospitality and tourism sector. Our aim is to keep you informed, prepared and ahead of the curve with insights tailored to support you and your business.
A reminder that A-level results will be made available to students this coming Thursday, 14th August.
This can signal a welcome boost in trade as students celebrate with their families and friends, and it should be remembered that the consumption of beer, wine or cider is permitted by those aged 16 or 17 if accompanying a table meal and purchased by somebody accompanying them who is aged 18 or over.
However, we would also urge operators to apply diligence in relation to underage sales on results day, and indeed over the weekend that follows given that many A-level students will be in the 16-18 age range, making it hard to tell which are old enough to purchase alcohol and which are not. Operators would be well advised to remind staff to be cautious and to refresh staff training on underage sales.
We will keep you updated, but in the meantime please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss what the changes mean for your business and what you can do now to prepare for them.
