One of Harrison Drury’s directors, took the plunge and raised more than £3,300 at the weekend, by taking on the annual Great North Swim at Lake Windermere.
Naomi Fell from Harrison Drury Solicitors, who is a Trustee of Fairoak Housing Association took part in the challenging one mile swim to raise money for local charity Friends of Fairoak, who provide safe accessible and supported accommodation for people with learning disabilities.
Naomi, who is based in Harrison Drury’s Kendal office, at Bridge Mils, said: “I wanted to take part in the Great North Swim to set myself a new challenge and in the process, raise money for a great cause. There was a real sense of adventure and determination amongst everyone taking part on Saturday.
“We are astounded by the generosity of people and have greatly exceeded the target of £2,500, which makes all the training and hard work worth it. I couldn’t have done it without John Chesworth, David Barnes and Sean Gibbs who joined me in the lake, they really spurred me along.
“It was an easy choice to fundraise for Friends of Fairoak, they enable people with learning difficulties to lead independent and fulfilling lives. The money will help with their befriending service and their recruitment drive for new volunteers.”
Naomi, completed her first swim in a remarkable 44 minutes and 38 seconds despite the difficult weather conditions, which caused the final day of races to be called off.
The Great North Swim is Europe’s biggest open-water swimming event that attracts thousands of swimmers to Lake Windermere each year.
