World Cup Update: Extension to Relaxation Hours
The Government has made an update to the recent licensing hours order allowing qualifying licensed premises in England and Wales to remain open until 30 minutes after the final whistle where the relevant England football fixture is delayed. The purpose of this amendment is to give operators and customers certainty where kick-off or the conclusion of the match is pushed back, including because of weather or other match-day disruption.
Premises can use and benefit from these extensions if, on the evening of the England matches your premises licence allows the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises to at least 23.00. If you qualify for this additional extension, just bear in mind conditions will remain applicable to the extra time (unless specifically waived) and you should still have regard to your neighbours.
This recent amendment provides useful flexibility for pubs and bars showing the match, and is a welcome clarification on the original order.
