Leisure Sector Update: Timely reminders for upcoming dates that may require a Temporary Event Notice (TEN)
Welcome to the Harrison Drury Leisure Sector Newsletter. Your regular update on legal developments across the leisure, hospitality and tourism sector. Our aim is to keep you informed, prepared and ahead of the curve with insights tailored to support you and your business.
The first to note is that Easter is fast-approaching. We regularly find that Good Friday is not included in a premises’ non-standard timings and that’s the case even more frequently with Maundy Thursday. Feedback from the trade in many areas is that it is increasingly difficult to predict which nights will be the busiest over a bank holiday weekend, so you may be well-advised to check the timings and non-standard timings on your premises licence and submit a TEN if you need more flexibility. For Maundy Thursday, a standard TEN would need to be lodged no later than 13th March and a late notice TEN would need to be lodged no later than 20th March.
In addition, British Summertime (BST) commences at 01:00 on Sunday 31st March (the Saturday evening / Sunday morning) when the clocks go forward by one hour. That means 01:00 becomes 02:00 so if you operate at those times and you don’t have a provision on your premises licence or a TEN in place, you will effectively lose an hour of trade. A standard TEN for Sunday 31st March would need to be submitted no later than 14th March and a late notice TEN would need to be submitted no later than 21st March.
