Helen Russell
HR Consultant
Employment
Professional Background:
Helen joined Harrison Drury in December 2015 as an HR Advisor. At the time this was a new role within the Employment Team focusing on provision of tailored HR Generalist / Personnel advice to complement the legal offering of the firm. Helen provides this support through both discrete activities for clients and under the HR Compass retainer service.
Helen began her HR career in 2001 following post-University experience in Procurement and Construction roles. She completed her CIPD Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel and Development (at University College Northampton) in 2005 and became a Chartered member of the CIPD in the same year. She is now a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD. In the years since, Helen has worked in a wide variety of roles, organisations and industries, gaining experience across the full range of HR Generalist activities.
In her role within the Employment Team, Helen is able to provide clients with practical advice, guidance and coaching covering everyday HR issues which all employers encounter. Using her extensive experience in operational HR roles she supplements the service provided by the legal professionals within the Employment Team by coaching managers how to best translate legal advice into practice.
In addition to generalist support Helen has undertaken a wide range of case management activities (e.g. issues regarding Conduct / Performance / Absence) and is able to undertake such work where clients either do not have the experience to do so or where a conflict of interest may be present.
Helen is able to provide appropriate support to businesses which are large enough to experience personnel issues, but do not necessarily have a requirement for a full-time, in house HR professional. She also enables Harrison Drury to effectively support local employers who may have people issues which require support but not necessarily in the form of a legal intervention.
Personal Interests:
Outside of work, Helen enjoys many different activities. These range from outdoor pursuits such as hill walking and camping, to her indoor passions of cooking and reading. She also has an extensive interest in fitness, health and well-being and keeps active thanks to various group exercise activities.
