Leisure Sector Update: Where is the Employment Rights Bill up to?
Welcome to the Harrison Drury Leisure Sector Newsletter. Your regular update on legal developments across the leisure, hospitality and tourism sector. Our aim is to keep you informed, prepared and ahead of the curve with insights tailored to support you and your business.
Following on from our update last week about the Employment Rights Bill (ERB) implementation roadmap, we wanted to update you as to the progress of the ERB more generally.
Where is the Employment Rights Bill up to?
The (ERB) has now completed the Committee Stage in the House of Lords, which is where proposed amendments were subject to detailed scrutiny, and an updated version of the ERB has been published which runs to 318 pages.
It will now proceed to Report Stage, scheduled for 14 and 16 July, followed by a final reading in the Lords, giving the Lords further opportunities to examine and make changes to it.
It will then pass back to the House of Commons for consideration of the Lords’ amendments and, once a final version is agreed, it will receive Royal Assent. This will mean it has been made an Act of Parliament and has become law.
As the House of Commons is due to begin its summer recess on 22 July, it is very unlikely that the ERB will complete its passage through Parliament until Autumn 2025.
We will keep you updated, but in the meantime please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss what the changes mean for your business and what you can do now to prepare for them.
