Leisure Sector Update: VE Day Celebration and Licensing hours extension from 11pm - 1am

Welcome to the Harrison Drury Leisure Sector Newsletter. Your regular update on legal developments across the leisure, hospitality and tourism sector. Our aim is to keep you informed, prepared and ahead of the curve with insights tailored to support you and your business.

In order to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the Government has announced that on Thursday 8th May 2025 the licensing hours will be extended from 11pm to 1am the following day.

The recent Order confirms the extension applies in England and Wales only and is for already licensed premises. The Order is similar to those that extended licensing hours for events such as the Queen’s Jubilee and the recent Coronation.

We understand that those premises planning to open late on Thursday may already have these hours on their premises licence but it is hoped that the extension will allow people to celebrate the special occasion and also bring communities together.

We have a team of solicitors across a range of legal disciplines all with significant experience in supporting businesses in the leisure sector. Meet our leisure sector team to see how our team can help support you. If you wish to subscribe to our leisure newsletter, please do so here.
