Leisure Sector Update: A-Level Results Day: Reminder on Alcohol Sales and Underage Compliance

Welcome to the Harrison Drury Leisure Sector Newsletter. Your regular update on legal developments across the leisure, hospitality and tourism sector. Our aim is to keep you informed, prepared and ahead of the curve with insights tailored to support you and your business.

A short note with a timely reminder that A-level results will be made available to students this coming Thursday, 15th August.

For many this will signal a welcome boost in trade as students celebrate with their families and friends, and it should be remembered that the consumption of beer, wine or cider is permitted by those aged 16 or 17 if accompanying a table meal and purchased by somebody accompanying them who is aged 18 or over.

However, we would also urge operators to apply diligence in relation to underage sales on results day, and indeed over the weekend that follows given that many A-level students will be in the 16-18 age range, making it hard to tell which are old enough to purchase alcohol and which are not.  Operators would be well advised to remind staff to be cautious and to refresh staff training on underage sales.

We have a team of solicitors across a range of legal disciplines all with significant experience in supporting businesses in the leisure sector. Meet our leisure sector team to see how our team can help support you. If you wish to subscribe to our leisure newsletter, please do so here.
