Harrison Drury supports RSPCA to open new Lancashire shop

Harrison Drury has been appointed by the RSPCA Preston and District branch to help expand its local offering by securing a lease for a new high street shop in Lancashire.

The RSPCA has taken a six-year lease on the property on Berry Lane in Longridge, which will operate as a charity shop selling second hand goods to raise funds for the charity’s animal centre in Preston.

The Preston centre is an independent, self-funded branch that aims to provide safe homes to abandoned, neglected or abused animals, and nurse them back to health – it relies entirely on public donations, and the money raised from its charity stores in Longridge, Chorley and Penwortham.

The charity has had a presence in Longridge for over twelve years but decided that after the end of its previous lease, it wanted to move into a larger premises on the high street that would attract more footfall and hold more stock, allowing for a higher turnover.

The commercial property team led by Wendy Newbury, advised the RSPCA on the lease having previously worked with the charity on other legal matters.

Claire Bradly Russell, branch manager at the RSPCA Preston branch, comments: “Our new store will allow the RSPCA to become even more prominent within the Longridge community and support with the vital funding of our Preston branch.

“We are grateful to Wendy for securing the lease within very tight timescales, especially as this has allowed us to open in time of the busy festive trading season.”

Wendy Newbury, senior associate solicitor, who advised on the lease, added: “We’re delighted to support such a highly regarded charity as the RSPCA to expand its offering in Longridge.

“The new lease will allow Claire and the team to make long term plans which will help their vital work aiding neglected animals in the area. We wish the team the best of luck during the upcoming festive season and well into the future.”

Established in 1824, the RSPCA is the largest animal welfare charity in the UK, with over 140 branches across the country who run as separately registered charities. It provides them with a small proportion of funds each year to support their vital work at a local level.

The new Longridge store is open every Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 4:30pm. The charity relies on the contribution of volunteers across the three shops and is always looking for more people to help support its requirements.
