Who can I talk to about Divorce Proceedings?

Share

I think my marriage/relationship is breaking down. I don’t know where I stand in relation to any divorce proceedings, sorting out the finances and children’s issues. I am worried and nervous. Who can I talk to?

The breakdown of a marriage or long term relationship is among the most emotionally traumatic experiences in anyone’s life. You wouldn’t be human if you weren’t anxious and confused, but the best way to start taking back control of your life is to speak to a solicitor.

It’s their job to handle the raft of problems you are worried about, including finances, arrangements for the children and the legal process of divorce. A  good solicitor will be aware that cost is a crucial issue for you and most firms offer an initial free interview, or at least a fixed fee.

You will quickly discover that this is time (and if necessary money) well spent. Most initial meetings will give you immediate peace of mind regarding many concerns flowing from the breakdown of your marriage or relationship.

You should look for a firm of solicitors which has a specialist Family team with solicitors and legal advisers who are members of Resolution. This is a national organisation of family lawyers committed to non-confrontational divorce, separation and other family problems.
