Harrison Drury advises on care home acquisition

Share

A Blackpool care home is to expand its range of services after it was acquired by a professional care manager.

This particular care home acquisition was by Cheryl Holden who purchased Glenthorne Care Home, which has 18 residents and 16 staff, from Valerie Tyler, who will continue to run the home in Reads Avenue as a registered manager.

Cheryl will carry on in her role as a qualified domiciliary care manager at a local care services agency, while supervising the financial management of Glenthorne and taking a hands-on approach to resident relationships.

She plans to expand Glenthorne’s service range by offering council-funded respite accommodation, as well as day care facilities that will enable potential residents to spend time at the home before deciding whether to move there permanently.

Commenting on the acquisition, Cheryl said: “I didn’t have much physical contact with older people in my ‘day job’ and have wanted to run a care home since my dad died six years ago. I got my degree in care management last year and now I’m able to put what I learned into practice, which is very fulfilling.

“I didn’t know my grandparents, and believe it’s important to have people from the older generation in your life. The approach we have is to treat our residents as we would our grandparents, which means being flexible and friendly in the way we look after them. Glenthorne is very much home from home.”

Legal advice on the care home acquisition was provided by David Filmer, head of mergers and acquisitions at Harrison Drury.

David said: “Cheryl is clearly a well-qualified professional care manager and businesswoman who I am sure will make a great success of Glenthorne as she grows and develops its service offering. With experienced staff in place and an ongoing management role for the vendor, continuity will be assured, and the freehold lease will create extra security going forward.”
