Share

A young lawyer who recently joined Harrison Drury Solicitors in Preston has been awarded a prestigious legal prize for achieving the highest exam score in the country for her studies in family law.

Gill Ashcroft, was given the annual family law prize by Resolution after receiving the highest mark nationally in the family law paper of the Legal Practice Course (LPC) qualification.

Gill, who is from Preston and studied at the University of Law, Manchester, achieved an astounding 95% in the exam. She began her training contract with Harrison Drury in September 2016, working within the divorce and family law department after gaining a distinction in both the LPC and Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL).

She said: “It’s such a fantastic achievement. At first I thought I had won the prize for the highest family law mark at the Manchester centre. It wasn’t until I received the email from Resolution that I realised it was across all the centres.

I have always been interested in family law and the amount of variety it provides. One day you may be in court, the next you could be occupied seeing clients all day, all from different walks of life.”

Damian Baron, head of family law at Harrison Drury, said: “Gill is a very talented person who brings an intelligent and vibrant approach to her work which will be a great asset to our team and all our clients throughout Lancashire and Cumbria.
